Lake Walk
Map Colour: Green
Distance: 7.6 km
Time: 1 – 2.5 hours
Difficulty: Easy
Notes: Loop walk of 6 km with optional short cut reducing walk to 3.8 km and optional 1.6 km extension to beach.
Leaving the Causeway map board head towards the Fish Shop (2) and, following the green arrows, take the first turn left up the steep hill after the (closed) Post Office. Climb, pausing for breath at the top of the hill, and look back and down to Pollgorm Bridge (4). Continue down (and up a bit) and Rabbit Island (17) soon comes into view. At the crossroads you have 3 options – a) Turn left and take a 30 minute out and back to visit Carrighilly (19) once a fishing village of 700 inhabitants – b) Take a short cut back to your starting point by following the dotted green arrow – or c) Follow the main walk straight across the crossroads, up and down with views over Lough Cluhir (20) with its flora and fauna. At the T junction turn right back to the school, church and village.
